The UConn women’s basketball team captured the American Athletic Conference tournament championship, thanks in part to the exceptional play of senior guard, Christyn Williams.

Williams, a 5’11” guard from Little Rock, Arkansas, led the team in scoring, averaging 20.5 points per game throughout the tournament. In the championship game against Marquette, Williams scored a game-high 26 points, earning her Most Outstanding Player honors for the tournament.

Williams’ performance in the conference tournament was a reflection of her play throughout the entire season. She finished the regular season as the team’s leading scorer, averaging 17.5 points per game while shooting 47.9% from the field. In addition to her scoring, Williams also contributed 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Williams’ leadership and experience were invaluable to the UConn squad, which featured several talented freshmen in key roles. Williams’ ability to make big plays in clutch situations helped guide the team to a 24-1 record during the regular season, with their only loss coming against top-ranked South Carolina.

In the conference tournament, Williams demonstrated her versatility, scoring from all areas of the court and consistently making plays for her teammates. In the championship game, Williams scored 20 points in the second half, helping the Huskies overcome an early deficit and secure their seventh conference tournament title.

Williams’ leadership and performance in the conference tournament were a fitting end to a remarkable college career. As she prepares to move on to the professional ranks, Williams leaves a legacy of success and excellence at UConn. Her contributions to the team’s championship run will not be forgotten, and she will forever be remembered as a Husky great.
