The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has made history yet again, with a record-breaking performance that solidifies their place as one of the greatest basketball teams of all time. The team’s 98-42 win over the University of South Florida on February 14, 2021 not only marked their 21st consecutive victory of the season, but also their 103rd consecutive home victory – a new NCAA record.

Led by Head Coach Geno Auriemma and star player Paige Bueckers, the Huskies have been dominating the college basketball scene for years. With a 21-1 record as of February 16th, it’s clear that this season is no different. But the team’s latest achievement is one for the record books.

The previous NCAA record for consecutive home victories was held by the UConn Huskies from 2008-2013, with 99 wins in a row. It’s a remarkable accomplishment in and of itself, but what’s even more impressive is the way the current Huskies squad has achieved it.

In the game against South Florida, the Huskies outscored their opponents 36-1 in the first quarter alone. Bueckers, who has been breaking records of her own all season long, finished the game with 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. However, it wasn’t just her performance that secured the win – every player on the Huskies’ roster got minutes on the court and contributed to the team’s success.

This is what makes the UConn women’s basketball program so special. It’s not just about breaking records and winning games – although they do plenty of that. It’s about teamwork, perseverance, and a relentless commitment to excellence. Coach Auriemma has created a culture that demands the best from his players, both on and off the court.

Of course, breaking records is still a big part of the UConn legacy. Last season, the Huskies were on track to win their 13th national championship before the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. This year, the team has their sights set on another deep postseason run and potentially another title to add to their collection.

But for now, the focus is on the amazing achievement of 103 consecutive home victories. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the program, from the players to the coaching staff to the administration. And it’s a reminder that UConn women’s basketball is not just a team – it’s a legacy.
