The UConn women’s basketball team has made history yet again, with another record-breaking year that cements their position as one of the greatest teams in the sport’s history. With a 31-2 record, the Huskies clinched their sixth straight American Athletic Conference title and secured a spot in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. This represents their 13th consecutive year in the tournament, a remarkable achievement that underscores the team’s consistent excellence on the court.

This year’s run was particularly impressive given the challenges the team faced. Notably, the Huskies lost two of their top players to injury – sophomore Anna Makurat and senior guard Christyn Williams – early in the season. Despite this setback, the team persevered and continued to dominate their opponents. Led by junior guard Paige Bueckers and senior forward Olivia Nelson-Ododa, the Huskies won 25 games by double digits and set multiple program records along the way.

One of the team’s standout performances came on February 22, when they defeated the St. John’s Red Storm by a score of 77-32. This victory marked the largest margin of victory in program history, surpassing the previous record of 74 points set in 2018. Bueckers led the way with 20 points, while Nelson-Ododa contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds.

In addition to their success on the court, the UConn women’s basketball team has also made an impact off the court. The team has been vocal in advocating for social justice and equality, and has used their platform to raise awareness about issues such as police brutality and racial inequality. They also participated in the nationwide Women’s March in January, joining thousands of others in calling for change.
