The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has once again claimed the top spot in the latest AP Poll. This is no surprise to fans of the Huskies, who have been dominating the sport for years now.

UConn is on a roll this season, with a record of 24-1. They have not lost a game since January 21, when they fell to the then-top-ranked Baylor team. Since then, they have won 11 straight games, including impressive victories over top-10 teams like South Carolina, Baylor (in a rematch), and Oregon.

The Huskies have been led by their star player, junior guard Paige Bueckers. Bueckers has been nothing short of spectacular this season, averaging 20.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. She is a front-runner for the Naismith Trophy, which is awarded to the best player in women’s college basketball.

But Bueckers is not the only standout player on this UConn team. Sophomore forward Aaliyah Edwards has been a force in the post, averaging 10.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Azzi Fudd has also been impressive, averaging 12.0 points per game in limited minutes due to injury.

Head coach Geno Auriemma deserves a lot of credit for this team’s success as well. Auriemma is a legend in the world of women’s college basketball, having won 11 national championships and coached some of the greatest players in the sport’s history. He has once again put together a team that plays with precision and intensity on both ends of the court.

The Huskies will look to keep their winning streak alive as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. They have a tough game against No. 17 DePaul on Sunday, followed by matchups against Marquette, St. John’s, and Creighton. They will then compete in the Big East Tournament before heading into the NCAA Tournament.

UConn is certainly the team to beat in women’s college basketball this season. Their dominant play, led by Bueckers and company, has earned them the top spot in the AP Poll and the respect of basketball fans everywhere. It remains to be seen whether anyone can knock them off their throne, but for now, the Huskies reign supreme.
