Alabama Basketball Head Coach Nate Oats has been steadily building a culture of excellence since taking over the program in March of 2019. Now, as the Crimson Tide prepares for the 2021-2022 season, Coach Oats’ vision for the team is reaching new heights.

In his first season, Oats led the Crimson Tide to a 16-15 record, but more importantly, he instilled a fast-paced, high-energy style of basketball that immediately caught the attention of fans and players alike. Last season, Alabama went 26-7 and won the SEC regular season and conference tournament championships for the first time since 1991. They also earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16.

Heading into this season, expectations are higher than ever. The Crimson Tide is ranked in the top 10 in several preseason polls and returns several key players, including Jaden Shackelford, Jahvon Quinerly, and Keon Ellis. They’ve also added important pieces through recruiting and transfers, such as J.D. Davison, Charles Bediako, and Nimari Burnett.

But it’s not just the talent on the court that has fans excited. Coach Oats has made it clear that his vision for Alabama Basketball extends beyond just winning games. He wants to develop players who are not only successful on the court, but also in their personal and professional lives.

“We want to develop young men that can be successful in anything they choose to do,” Oats said in a recent press conference. “We want to develop young men that can be leaders in their communities, leaders in their families, and leaders in their businesses.”

To achieve this, Oats has emphasized the importance of academics, community service, and communication. He wants players who are not only skilled basketball players, but also well-rounded individuals who can make a positive impact on the world.

“Our guys are doing well in the classroom,” Oats said. “We’re seeing a lot of guys really taking advantage of the resources we have here at Alabama and becoming better students. And then off the court, we’re really emphasizing community service. We want to give back to the community that supports us so much.”

Overall, Coach Oats’ vision for Alabama Basketball is one of excellence on and off the court. It’s a vision that is already paying dividends, and one that will continue to push the Crimson Tide to new heights in the years to come.
