LeBron James, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, passed Michael Jordan on the all-time scoring list last Wednesday, further cementing himself as an NBA legend.
James scored 29 points in the game against the Denver Nuggets, bringing his career total to 32,311 points and surpassing Jordan’s 32,292 points. This feat is impressive not only because Jordan is considered by many to be the best basketball player of all time, but also because James accomplished this in fewer games.
While Jordan played in 1,072 games to achieve his total, James did it in just 1,189 games. This achievement speaks to James’ consistency and durability as a player. Throughout his career, he has been able to maintain a high level of performance, despite his age.
James’ NBA journey began in 2003 when he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers straight out of high school. He quickly became one of the league’s brightest stars, earning the nickname “King James.” Over the course of his career, he has won four NBA championships, four MVP awards, and two Olympic gold medals.
Despite all of his accomplishments, James believes that his legacy will not be just about individual accomplishments. In an interview after the game, he said, “I’ve always said that my legacy is bigger than basketball. Me being a role model on and off the floor, inspiring the next generation, is what I’m more proud of than my accomplishments on the floor.”
James’ impact on the NBA extends far beyond his impressive stats. He has been a vocal advocate for social justice, using his platform to speak out on issues such as police brutality and voting rights. He has also been active in promoting education and providing opportunities for underprivileged communities.
As James continues to climb the all-time scoring list and add accolades to his resume, his impact on the league and on society will undoubtedly continue to grow. It’s safe to say that he has already secured his place in basketball history, and his legacy will be felt for years to come.
